Interview of Andreas Westfeld

Deakins:
Congratulations Andreas! You are first in the Hall of Fame ! But tell me, was it difficult to enter ?

Andreas:
It is similar to Ebay: if you bid too early before the
deadline, you will loose.

Deakins:
By the way, what are you working on nowadays (when not involved in the BOWS-2 challenge)?

Andreas:

Hale:
Hum, this rings as a deja-vu ... Next question: are you close to other soldiers involved in the BOWS-2 challenge?

Andreas:
My colleages entered the Hall of Fame before the Great
Purge ...

Deakins:
Did you apply the same attack to the three images or was it a dedicated hack for each time?

Andreas:
No and no. I got rid of the first two marks by one print and
scan cycle. The third one needed some theoretical
consideration (toner cartridge was empty).

Deakins:
Why haven't you shot to improve your hit ratio during this week ?

Andreas:
Oh, I did submit my three images again and again, but the
PSNR did not increase. :-(

Hale:
What is your opinion about the BOWS contest? Do you think it is useful?

Andreas:
It's high time to continue BOWS. All my topics for papers
are exhausted.
And then of course, there is a prize. This was my motivation
to participate in the first BOWS contest. Unfortunately, I
did not win phase 1 and still take my photos on conventional
film (1).

Hale:
Are you completely addicted, watching the site every hour, or are you relax and confident?

Andreas:
The BOWS law prevents addiction (rule R1.1: "Only 30
attempts/day per participant are allowed"). However, my wife
says I am completely addicted to BOWS. I don't think so. I
could stop bowsing if I wanted to. I just don't want to ...

Deakins:
Have you some fun entering in the fight ?

Andreas:
I liked the first week with a dozen of entries very much.
You should lower the bar to 18.60854 dB. This would
vitalise the Hall of Fame. (You have probably the precise
PSNR value that is necessary to guarantee twenty entries
within one week.)

Deakins:
No, it is not possible, otherwise we’ll have to do too much interviews. Last question: what kind of prize would you like to get if you win the contest?

Andreas:
I still hope for the camera ...
After the crash you said that you will try to rise the prize
of episode one. I don't know much about watermarking. I
ignored the last decade of watermarking literature. How
about a crossbow; it has the effect of a bow but does not
require any training nor any arm protection (you should have
seen my arm after the first week of the contest).

Deakins and Hale:
Thanks soldier Westfeld !

(1): see Andreas’ picture above: he still uses silver films.
